.256 Newton Model 1916 Bolt Action Rifle Rare!!
IN STOCK
Newton Model 1916 .256 Newton Caliber. This rifle has had some changes over the years and is a nice example of a rare caliber. The .256 was the most well known of the Newton proprietary calibers and one of the earliest loadings to get close to 3000 FPS. This was an amazing achievement for 1916! Details of the 1916 rifles can be found in Lawrence Wales wonderful book and guide to the Newton. These are take down rifles that take down via lowering the floorplate which is hinged and simply unscrewing the main bolt by using the floorplate as a handle, then lifting the barreled action out of the stock. The action on this rifle is in nice condition and has some wear to the blue, set trigger works well, both front and rear bridges have been drilled and tapped for scope mounts and bases. Fitted with a Pecar 4x81 period scope. The barrel is 24" with a front sight, barrel band rear sight, the blue is nice and the segmented rifling is clean with a clean chamber and no throat erosion. The stock is in good condition, no checkering and finish is minimal, 13 1/2" length of pull. Schnable fore end. This is a nice example of a 3xxx serial number range Newton for a very reasonable price. A Rare rifle to find in New Zealand!
