.22 Short English Antique Woodward Patent Superposed Swivel Barrel Derringer
IN STOCK
Here we present an antique Woodward’s Patent Superposed Swivel Breech Over/Under Deringer in .22 Short, made circa 1870 in England. This is likely one of only a very small batch made under this patent and by this maker. Other swivel barrels were made in this time frame but are not nearly so well-constructed and aesthetically pleasing as this one, in our opinion. This one has an overall length of 5 ¼ inches with 1 ¾ inch barrels. Each barrel is stamped with two British proofs. The left side of the frame is stamped “WOODWARD’S/PATENT” above the serial number. The frame also has a double line border engraving with a checkered hammer tip. The hammer is equipped with a safety notch and a sliding safety is mounted to the tang. It has case colored barrels and a silver plated frame, along with checkered grips. The overall condition is fine. Original finish has been preserved. The action is good. Bright, rifled bores—the bores were not made with deep rifling as it is not needed at the kind of near contact distance this weapon was intended for. Both barrels swivel properly. Clear markings. Both grips contain checkering and remain in great shape. “527” is marked on the frame, barrel rib, and butt. This is a gorgeous little gun that you will not be able to put down. One can easily imagine this one being carried around in a vest pocket or a clutch in busy London.
